GUEST TEACHERS
Kent Education Association membership is open to all certificated substitute employees who work in the
Kent School District in non-supervisory positions. Membership in KEA entitles you to vote, to be represented on
the Representative Council, to be represented by KEA in a variety of circumstances, and to receive membership benefits.
A guest teacher automatically becomes a member of the teachers' bargaining unit represented by the Kent
Education Association if:
- The guest teacher substitutes 30 days in the KSD within any 12-month period ending during the current or
immediately preceding school year, or
- The guest teacher substitutes for 20 consecutive days in the same assignment.
Upon becoming part of the teachers' bargaining unit, a guest teacher must either join the Kent Education Association
as a member OR will be required to pay a representation fee which is equal to the dues paid by a member, unless there is
a bona fide religious objection.
