  • What is a Grievance?

As a member of the Kent Education Association, your salary, benefits, and working conditions are guaranteed by a contract between the Association and the District. This contract has been developed through the process of professional negotiations, in accordance with state law.

As important as this contract is, however, it means little if the employer fails to live up to its requirements. When a principal or other administrator violates the rights promised in the contract, the Association can challenge that decision through a process of meetings and, ultimately, a formal hearing at which an impartial outside arbitrator will make a final decision. This is known as the grievance process, and it is essential for the Association to use it to protect your rights and to resolve any disputes about the meaning of the contract.

KEA wants to keep you informed about your rights under the contract, as well as how your Association Reps, officers, and staff work together to resolve problems and strive to maintain and improve your working conditions so you can do your best to provide quality instruction for the children of the community. If you believe your rights have been violated, please contact your KEA Rep or call the KEA office at 852-1350.
